Enrichment and Personal Development at Dunbury

At Dunbury, our enrichment programme is carefully designed to provide a broad and progressive range of experiences that strongly support pupils’ personal development. We recognise that education extends far beyond the taught curriculum and are committed to ensuring that every child benefits from meaningful opportunities that enhance both their school and wider life experiences.

Through a wide range of enrichment activities, children are encouraged to develop their interests and talents, work collaboratively, and take increasing responsibility for their actions and contributions. We want our children to step forward as leaders with their own ideas and aspirations for their school and beyond, and have the courage to try new things.

We are deeply committed to equality of opportunity and are determined that all children, regardless of their background or starting point, have access to a rich set of opportunities that broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding of the world.

Our enrichment programme is inclusive by design, ensuring that all pupils, including those who may face disadvantage, are able to take part fully. We actively remove barriers to participation so that every child can benefit from the opportunities that support their growth and wellbeing. Children participate in competitive sports events and music or theatrical performances. Clubs within school are designed to meet the needs of all children; from those who yearn for more quiet, reflective social experiences like chess club to those who love football and dodgeball.

At Dunbury, we actively promote the fundamental British values of:

  • Democracy, through our School Council, where pupils learn to voice their opinions, listen to others and take part in decision-making
  • The rule of law, through clear expectations, responsibilities within leadership roles and understanding the importance of fairness and rules in school and society
  • Individual liberty, by encouraging pupils to make choices, explore their interests and develop independence
  • Mutual respect and tolerance, through working collaboratively, celebrating diversity and understanding different communities, faiths and perspectives

We place great importance on developing pupil leadership and active citizenship. Children are encouraged to take on meaningful leadership roles within the school, including:

  • School Council representatives
  • Worship leaders
  • Play leaders
  • Eco leaders
  • Sports leaders

These opportunities enable pupils to develop their voice, take responsibility, and understand how they can contribute positively to their school and wider community.

A strong feature of our enrichment provision is the opportunity for pupils to make a positive contribution to society. We are passionate about enabling children to serve others and develop a sense of social responsibility. Pupils regularly take part in activities such as:

  • Performing for local community and social groups
  • Singing at local events
  • Participating in environmental projects, including tree planting
  • Caring for the school grounds and local environment

Through these experiences, pupils learn the importance of service, respect and community, while developing a strong sense of belonging and identity.

Our enrichment programme ensures that all pupils leave Dunbury as well-rounded, responsible citizens, equipped with the knowledge, skills and personal qualities they need to succeed in the next stage of their education and life beyond.
