Statutory Assessment

During the Primary phase there are 5 statutory assessment points.

  • The EYFS profile, which is a statutory assessment of children’s development at the end of the early years foundation stage (known as a summative assessment) and is made up of an assessment of the child’s outcomes in relation to the 17 early learning goals (ELGs). It is intended to provide a reliable, valid, and accurate assessment of each child’s development at the end of the EYFS.
    • Children are defined as having reached a Good Level of Development (GLD) at the end of the EYFS if they have achieved the expected level for the ELGs in the prime areas of learning and the specific areas of mathematics and literacy. This helps teachers and parents to understand broadly what a child can do in relation to national expectations.
  • Phonics Screening Check is taken individually by all children in Year 1 in England, and is usually taken in June. It is designed to give teachers and parents information on how your child is progressing in phonics. It will help to identify whether your child needs additional support at this stage so that they do not fall behind in this vital early reading skill.
  • Key Stage 1 SATs are a summative assessment of the knowledge if the KS1 curriculum in English and Maths.  Please click on the document below for more information.
  • Multiplication Check is an assessment for year 4 pupils.  The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will help schools to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided.
  • Key Stage 2 SATs are a summative assessment of the knowledge if the KS2 curriculum in English and Maths.  Please click on the document below for more information.
