Welcome to Elm - Year Four Class
Welcome to Elm class! We are a class of Year 4 children based at our Dunbury Junior base.
Subject | Focus for the half term |

Reading | We are currently reading the Chinese folktale The Magic Paintbrush. We also relate the reading we do to the year 4 spellings rules we are learning.
At home: Keep reading with your children and writing it in their record books. We would love to hear all about the books you are sharing with your children, so please do let us know! |
Writing | We are using our focus story - The magic paintbrush to write character descriptions. We are also looking at subordinate conjunctions and subordinate clauses.
At home: Please support correct letter formation. We celebrate all writing efforts. Please do share any work your child has completed at home - we love to see it! |
Maths | We have started the year looking at place value and addition and subtraction using the column method. We will also learn about numbers to 10,000, perimeter and the 3, 6 and 9 times tables this term.
At home: Please practice the times tables - 2, 4, 5, 8 and 10s for a start. |
RE | In R.E we are enquiring 'what do Christians learn from creation?'
At home: Discuss what beliefs you have at home - why is it important to you and your family? |
Science | In Science we are looking at 'How do forces help or hinder?' Looking at forces and magnets.
At home: Consider which materials are magnetic and which are not. |
Other subjects | History - How did the lives of ancient Britons change during the Stone Age? Music – PE - Ball skills and netball - we shall be practising our ball skills and using them to play netball. PHSE - Me and My Relationships - this includes feelings / emotions/ conflict resolution and friendships. DT - What makes an effective collage? We will be creating a collage of a landscape. |
